My husband took me out to a Chinese restaurant for dinner last night. We ordered some golden fried prawns and some chicken noodles. I was seated right opposite to the restaurants kitchen which was closed with a huge wooden door. As we waited for the food, I saw waiters going to and fro through the huge door and I was trying to peek inside the kitchen but of course I was unsuccessful.
Most Chinese restaurants have an ambience which is usually characterised by dim lighting (May be to give the feeling of a candle lit dinner). Our food arrived and it was nice, as we were having our food, my today’s post was born!
I was just wondering if we just tour some of the kitchens of our favorite restaurants where we often eat, we might decide to never eat outside food again. Another reason there’s huge board called NO ENTRY in front of the kitchens of most restaurants! The thought that our food so well garnished and absolutely appealing comes from dirty kitchens can be quite disgusting! Oh we don’t probably want to believe!! Of course that’s the reason the food industry has a food security body and is governed by legislation which is kept accountable through regular audits!
The bible says, that we are the temple of the Holy Spirit and we are here on this earth to serve others for the glory of God(I Corinthians 6:19: Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit). We might be great people of God, with a wonderful smile, always lifting our hands and saying Halleluiah and Praise the Lord, or singing loudly in churches or leading peple through administration. We could garnish our services of visiting the poor, unprivileged, orphans, the sick with our bibles in hand and some pious look!
But where does our motives overflow from?? Is it not the heart ?? Ahhh… If we were to open our hearts and see, what can we expect to see???
Is it found with some burnt marks of flaring anger or smoked with our past, buried hurts? Is it full of scattered dirty vessels of bitterness and unforgiveness? Are there unused and therefore rotten vegetables and fruits of talents lying behind somewhere in the side? Or can we find cockroaches of selfishness, jealousy, pride, laziness running around? Do we find rodents like evil intentions, slander, adultery or theft?? Are ants of worry, depression, stress stealing us of our joy, love and peace??
If we are supposed to serve God, will God accept our service if our factory is so so dirty?? Today’s church is sick, because we have decorated ourselves outwardly and we’ve locked our heart with a NO ENTRY door, we do not want to correct ourselves and be convicted of our sins. (Matthew 23:27-28: “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs, which on the outside look beautiful, but inside they are full of the bones of the dead and of all kinds of filth. So you also on the outside look righteous to others, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness)
Can we on our own clean ourselves of all the uncleanness and continue to keep ourselves clean? Ah… never never my dear ones, we can’t do it on our own. I have a very small kitchen and I cook very less. Though I try to keep it clean, almost within a week or so, its dirtied again. The leftovers, the unwanted vessels, plastics bottles and stove often gets dirtied with oil and overflown milk and dust gets settled on containers! And I get really annoyed to keep cleaning the kitchen time and again. But if I let the dirt be there, it will be harder to clean later and will require much more effort! This is the same with our hearts, only Jesus blood can cleanse us free from our unrighteous and we are bound to fall and fail! We need to regularly use some disinfectants and solutions like Prayer, Praise and Confession to keep us clean.
We all know food is necessary for living, and the kitchen has to be hygienic to provide good food. Our bodies are living sacrifices for our God, can we have dirtied hearts and still serve in HIS courts?
